The Chairman then read His Excellency's despatch to the
Secretary of State dated 30th January, 1928, covering details
of the Aberdeen Scheme.
Mr. Mackie enquired if it would not be cheaper to proceed with the Harbour Pipes (Cross Harbour Scheme).
The Chairman said that the cost of the Cross Harbour
Pipe was estimated at $500,000 in the Programme of Jork already referred to, but the Consulting Engine er's estimate was much higher providing for larger pipes laid in concrete
in a dredged trench.
Mr. Beith enquired if the Aberdeen Scene would not
delay the Harbour Pipe proposel.
The Chainan stated that it would be difficult to say definitely to what extent the Harbour Pipe might be delayed as the resumption of the village at Shing Lun was necessary.
Mr. Mackie pointed out that in the Aberdeen Scheme the resumption of the Paper Mills would have to te arranged.
The Chairman replied that was so.
r. Beith inquired if the resumption of the Village at Shing Hun is necessary in the first instanco.
The Chairman replied that le Engineers might be of the opinion üat it was not necessary but the Director of Medical and Sanitary Services and Medical Authorities considered that
it was.
Dr. Kotewall asked if the Aberdeen Scheme would meet water requirements for same years when it is completed.
The Chairman replied that it was hoped it would do so but it depended entirely upon the growth of the Colony.
Dr. Kotewall then asked if requiramonts would be met if the 1st Section of the Shing un Scheme was also included.
The Chairman replied that the position would then be
much better.
