The Board also propose to seek power to make rules
to be referred to as "fire prevention rules") for
prescribing the appliances to be provided for and carried
in and the means to be adopted in British ships for the
brevention and extinction of fire. As a consequential

mendment to Section 272 (4) (c) of the Merchant Shipping
Act, 1894, to which Section (8) (b) (iii) of the Hong Kong
Ordinance No. 10 of 1899 corresponds, it is proposed that the
words "appliances for the prevention or extinction of fire'
shall be substituted for the words fire hose". The object
of these amendments is to give full statutory effect to the
Regulations contained in the Board of Trade Circular 1658
entitled "Instructions to Surveyors Fire Extinguishing
Appliances in Steam and Motor Passenger Ships", of which
copies have already been sent to the Governor of Hong Kong.
Section 10 (8) (b) (iii)
The Board have also under consideration certain amendments
o the provisions relating to load-line and the detention of
insea worthy ships. These amendments have not yet been
rafted, but the Governor of Hong Kong might be informed
