packets of the Peninsular and Oriental Company would involve
an expenditure of about £3,000 a year, on the assumption that
Messrs. Holt would accept the same rates of payment as they
were receiving in 1921.
For this reason and also because there has hitherto
been no strong demand for an improved Service the Postmaster
General has hesitated to ask the Treasury to sanction the expense of providing a weekly Parcel Service to the Far East.
The same considerations apply to the suggestions made by the Governor of the Straits Settlements in his despatch
of the 20th of October last, of which a copy accompanied your
no2 letter, No.28225/27, dated the 25th of November, for the
establishment of a weekly Parcel Post to that Colony.
I am, Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
