I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt
of Mr. Ormsby Gore's despatch No.551 of 29th October, 1927,
on the subject of the parcel mail service between this Colony and the United Kingdom and with reference to paragraph 3 thereof to state that the Postmaster General
here has made tentative enquiries of the Japanese
Administration with a view to the carriage of a parcel mail
from Hong Kong to London by the steamers of the Hippon Yusen Kaisha mail service which alternates weekly with that of the
Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company.

In the event of the Japanese Administration's
agreeing to this proposal, I venture to suggest that the addition of the Hong Kong parcels to those already being carried to London from Japan and Shanghai will not cause any serious or costly inconvenience to the London
Authorities.
3.
I may add that the infrequency of the
London - Hong Kong Service has a seriously depressing effect on mail-order purchases in England by customers in
