With further reference to your letter of the 30th of
January last, I am directed by the Postmaster General to
acquaint you, for the information of the Secretary of State
for the Colonies, that the Treasury has now authorised the use
of Holt Line Steamers, alternately with Steamers of the
Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company, for the
conveyance of Parcel Mails to the Far East.
The necessary arrangements are being made with
Messrs. Holt, and it is hoped to start the new Service at an
early date.
The Postal Administrations of the Colonies concerned will
be advised as soon as a date for the first despatch has been
fixed.
