I am commanded by the Air Council to refer to
Treasury letter of the 11th instant, S.26090, a copy of
which is stated to have been sent to your Department, and to
previous correspondence relative to the acquisition of the
Kai Tak site at Kowloon, and to acquaint you, for the
information of the Secretary of State for the Colonies, that
the Air Council are for their part prepared to accept the
basis of contribution from Imperial funds proposed by the
Treasury.
Their acceptance is, of course, subject to the
proviso mentioned by the Treasury that funds to meet the
contribution of £70,000 payable in the current financial
year can be made available.
So far as they can at present foresee, there is
no reason to doubt that this will be the case.
The Council accordingly trust that Mr. Amery will
be prepared to recommend the Government of Hong Kong to
The Under Secretary of State,
Colonial Office,
S.W.1.
