scheme was suggested and much heavy Piling

foundation work was done as a beginning towards the

building of a new Gaol. The Colony's expenditure

in this connexion amounted to a total of

$395,978.75 under the following headings :

Reference to the enclosure to despatch No

226 of the 25th Aril 1928 will show that a

careful reservation was made in favour of this

corner of land to distinguish it from the area resumed from the Kai Tak Company for the purpose of constructing the Aerodrome. Page 2 of the first enclosure to despatch No. 226 reads: "the area edged in dotted red is Government land which may be reserved on terms to be agreed upon for building if required for an Air Force Unit". Further on page 3 is the sentence "the red dotted line shows the boundary of Government land

hich may be reserved for the Air-Force Squadrons".
