letter of the 20th instant asking for an explanation of the loss of $7818.97 in my department. refer to the proceedings of the Committee of Enquiry and submit that my personal responsibility in the matter should be regulated by the finding of that Committee. It will be observed on pages 27 and 28 of the Committee's report that the inadequacy of the staff at the time is held to be the chief contribtory cause of the failure to detect the defaults in payment by the Auctioneering and Brokering Company, Ltd., and
on pages 10 and 11 reference is made to the exercise
of supervision by myself.
