No.3
in 1048/1925.
CCNFIDENTIAL.
Sir,
Enclosure No.10.
Copy.
Colonial Secretary's Office,
!
Hong Kong,
20th October, 1927.
186
I em directed to call upon you, as Registrar of the Supreme Court, for an explanation in writing of the fact that the Auctioneering and Brokering Co., Ltd., was allowed to be in default in respect of various sums due by the Company to the Registry with the result that a balance amounting to $7,818.97 payable by the Company to the Registry is now wholly irrecoverable.
2. I am to direct your attention to the fact that
in a recent despatch the Secretary of State said that in
any case in future where defalcations were found to be
the result of a faulty system, he could not undertake that
he would be prepared to relieve the responsible Head
of Department of the necessity of making good the loss.
3. Your explanation should reach me not later
than Friday the 28th October.
I am, Sir,
Your obedient servant,
(Sa). E. R. Hallifax,
Colonial Secretary.
H. A. Nisbet, Esquire,
Registrar,
Supreme Court,
Hong Kong.
