Yes.
Did you look to the Deputy Registrar to super- vise receipts and payments into Court?
Yes. He signed 99% of the Treasury Directions
in and out.
In view of the Deputy Registrar's supervision of accounts would you expect him to see that the proceeds of sales are duly received and paid into Court?
Yes. I should look primarily to the First Bailiff to see that payment was made and next to the Deputy Registrar to check that payment had been made.
Would you have expected that the Deputy Registrar would from time to time make inspections of the cash in
the hands of the shroff?
Yes.
Prior to August, 1926, have any of the Bailiffs complained to you that persons entitled to money arising out of sales have been unable to obtain their money?
No.
Has the Deputy Registrar ever complained as to the insufficiency of the accounting staff?
I don't think so.
Except that we have always known that the shroff had an enormous amount of work
to do.
