Has the Company assets from which the sums due
to the Court could be recovered?
No.
When goods were sold under distraint or
execution did the auctioneers send their account sales
in envelopes addressed to you?
Account sales never came to me personally.
Who opens envelopes addressed to the Registrar?
Either Mr. Melbourne or I.
Did you take any steps to see that the proceeds
of sales came in?
I regarded it as a matter delegated to Melbourne.
He signs all orders for sales. It was his duty to see
that the proceeds were paid in.

Whose duty was it to keep proper records of
distraint and execution sales and of the proceeds and to
see that the proceeds are duly paid in? Mr. Melbourne
appears to regard the First Bailiff as the responsible
person.
The first Bailiff's. It would be his duty to
point out to Mr. Melbourne if money was not being paid in.
The First Bailiff would get the information as to the
amount of the net proceeds from the account sales.
1
To whom did the account sales go?
I think they went to Mr. Hill.
Were they always accompanied by cheques?
In the past they were.
Should the posting of the date of account
rendered in the Bailiffs Record of Sales Book mean that
the money had been paid in?
Yes.
