of the Auctioneering Co.?
If so, why?
(Bank book shown this indicates that the shroff paid $1,065.20 into his own account on 14th and paid on 16th.
Yes, I advanced the money to pay the plaintiff and the compradore promised to return the money to me two days after. I received the money two days after. That was paid out of my private account. There had been a sale under the execution a long time before. The plaintiff had complained that he had not got his money. I spoke to Mr. Hill and so did the plaintiff. This was on August 14th. The plaintiffs complained on Saturday, 14th. I advanced the money personally and got it back two days later. I paid it into my bank. I received $1,000 two days later. I issued cheque on 14th and he returned the money the same day.
SO UT TAI, continued.

With reference to your cheque made payable to Hong Kong Government for $1800 on 30.3.26 you said that you paid the money from the daily collections to your private account and next day paid the Govern- ment by cheque. There is no corresponding payment to your account in March. How is this?
Some
It would be less than that ($1800.00).
of the money I advanced to pay extra watchmen. I take the collections to pay the extra watchmen.
You were not lending money to the Government. What Government money did you pay into your account
to make up $1800?
I always had a balance of a few hundred in
my account and take the daily takings to pay into my account, then the day after I issue my cheque
to the Government?
