Did you consider the accounting system

satisfactory?

I am not an accountant and couldn't say. Is it correct that there was an express direct- ion by the Treasurer that no receipts should be given by the Registrar in respect of payments into Court?

Yes.

(Mr. Messer says that he thought that the person paying in took the direction order himself).

Have the Auditor or Treasurer made any suggest- ion to you that you should adopt any new system of accounting or bring into use any new type of book?

Not so far as I am aware.

What, if any, ledger accounts are kept in the Registry and to what funds do these relate?

Ledger accounts are kept in respect of Deceased persons' estates, Official Trusts, Bankruptcy moneys paid in under s.80 (1) and 0.J. Actions.

How long has Mr.Hill, First Bailiff, been in Government employ?

Since 1900. He was first employed in the

Registry on 29.6.03, became Bailiff on 9.5.08 and First

Bailiff on 26.9.16.

Have you regarded him as trustworthy?

I have never doubted him.

Have you any evidence of any financial tran-

sactions by way of loan or otherwise between the First

Bailiff and/or the Shroff and the Auctioneering & Broker-

ing Co., Ltd. ?

In September the books of the Company came into

my custody. It was then discovered that there was a

ledger account which appears to show that Hill had

extensive financial transactions with the Company and

lent them large sums.

(Book shows loans of $3,000, $739.25 and $1,500-.49
