The books were not totalled and there was no checking of the total of the day's receipts with the
total payments to Treasurer.
How could you tell what moneys were due to
Creditor in respect of any sale?
From the Court file. This is endorsed by the shroff when direction for payment out is given. So far as I know it is not initialled by any officer when direction for payment is made.

How could you ensure that two direction orders might not be given in respect of the same distraint?
We could not. But the Treasurer would see
that payment had been made once and would decline to
pay again.

When an auctioneer conducting a distraint sale pays in the proceeds does he have a receipt from the Registry at the time of payment?
A:13
NO.
We issue no receipts, except the Treasury receipt which comes to hand about two days after payment. If payment was made in cash the shroff could withhold
payment for a time.
