Enclosure No. 1.
Copy.
COMPID METAL No.72.
Audit Department,
Hong Kong,
16th September, 1926.
Sir,
S
I have the honour to refer you to my report
dated the 17th of December 1925, and a joint minute by the Colonial Treasurer and myself last March contained in 0.5....... U.S.U.No.1048/25, and to inform you that on the 6th of September in conjunction with Mr. Haughan the Senior Clerk and Mr. Chan Awai In of this department, I made a survey
of the money in the custody of the Shroff of the Supreme
Court.
2.
The result of the survey and a subsequent inspection of the records of the Registrar revealed a state of affairs which I will term as unsatisfactory. As far as
I was able to ascertain the Maintenance and Companies Fees
20peared to be in order. The Stamp Imprest showed a
deficiency of 24 cents.
Possession Fees showed a deficiency
of $119.95 on the collections since the last payment into
the Treasury, and there would appear, according to the ent-
ries in the Possession Fees Book, as they appeared at the
time of the survey, a further sum of $172., which should
have been in the custody of the Shroff, but which was not
produced.
In view of the fact that owing to no receipts being given
at the time payments are made into the Court, and no book
of account exists shewing the transactions, it became
necessary to try and arrive at a statement as to the amount
The Hon. The Colonial Secretary,
of
Hong Kong.
