maintenance of the ship, obviously in the expectation of an early sale through their hands with a handsome

commission. Unfortunately for this scheme the boycott

made shipping unsaleable and at the same time killed

the general financial prospects of the Auctioneering and Brokering Company, which having no funds of its own, and not daring to risk the release of the ship to her ormers with the loss of money advanced and of prospects of commission, proceeded to maintain

her out of the proceeds of other sales entrusted to

it by the representatives of the Court.

An interim report on the "Ling Nam" accounts, dated 29th November, 1926, (copy enclosed) was furnished by the Committee and the Registrar was

instructed to take action at once in accordance with the Committee's recommendations. The Registrar acknowledged these instructions on the 18th December, 1926, and stated that a full report and statement of accounts from the "Ling Nam" was being prepared for submission to the Chief Justice.

ô. The final report of the Committee was submitted on the 9th December, 1926. I enclose a

copy. One copy of the report was sent by the Colonial Secretary to the Registrar, Supreme Court for his comments on the 21st December. His reply, dated 7th January, 1927, was as follows:-

"I beg to acknowledge the receipt of your letter "of the 21st ult. enclosing a copy of the report "of the Committee of Enquiry concerning the Supreme "Court Registry. Both Ir. Melbourne and I have "gone carefully through it and have no comment to "make upon it."
