THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

I have the honour to inform you that in

December, 1925, the Acting Auditor drew attention

to the state of the accounts of the Supreme Court,

Official Receiver, Official Trustee, Official Ad-

ministrator and Registrar of Trade Larks, with

special reference to the accounts of the Official

Receiver. A preliminary investigation of the facts

was made by the Treasurer conjointly with the

Acting Auditor who reported that the whole system

required revision and recommended that a senior

officer with Treasury experience should be seconded

for the purpose.

At that time, as stated in my confidential

had just been

despatch of the 8th June, 1926, 14= 23788-

found necessary to transfer Ir. E.L. Agassiz from the Public Works Department to the Supreme Court to

take over the duties of Official Receiver. Ir.gassiz

inmediately set himself to clear up the accumulated

arrears; but in May, 1926, owing to the departure on leave of his locum tenens in the Public Works Depart- ment, he had to revert for a period of six months

to his
