whose names are given as Secunda Khan and Mudrua Khan.
Further particulars regarding the deceased will doubtless
be given by the authorities in Hongkong, to which port
the steamer has returned. The "San Nam Hoi" runs
between Hongkong and Kongmoon and does not visit
Canton. Two Indian guards are also reported to be
severely wounded.

The Commissioner for Foreign Affairs was with me when I received the news of the piracy, and I re- quested that immediate instructions should be telegraph-
ed to the Kongmoon authorities to act vigorously in the matter without delay. I followed this up with an official communication, of which a copy is enclosed.
At an interview with General Li Chai Sum this morning,
I repeated the request and urged that special orders
should be given to investigate the connection of the
Seamen's Union with the affair. General Li assured me
that telegraphic instructions in this sense had already
been sent, and this was confirmed by the Commissioner
for Foreign Affairs.

H.M.S. Faulknor is remaining at Kongmoon for
the present and the Commanding officer has reported
by wireless that besides six or seven pirates killed
by the village volunteers at the place where the
attackers left the ship, some fifteen others have been
arrested by the military authorities at Kongmoon ană
of these eight were shot yesterday. The Chinese
officials have asked that the ship's officers and
compradore should be sent to Kongmoon to identify
the remaining prisoners, and I have urged that this
should be done.
