STEAMER LOOTED BY CHINESE PIRATES. (FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT.)

HONG-KONG, APRIL 17.

After a long rest the Bias Bay pirates have again become active, their victim being the Chinese steamer Hsinwah, from Shanghai bound for Hong-kong. A Canton gunboat which had recently been patrol- ling appeared while the booty was being transferred ashore and the pirates fled inland, taking loot worth £2,000 and also five Chinese passengers for Chinese bluejackets vainly pursued them.

*According to a Reuter telegram from Hong kong the Hsinwah was seized by 15 pirates disguised as passengers, who surprised the officers, and ordered the master to steer for the Samchau inlet in Bias Bay. On arrival there the vessel was met by sampans to which the pirates' loot, consisting of cargo and passengers' belongings, was transferred.
