It is hardly necessary to emphasize the

deplorable impression which will be created if, in

the event of the Canton Government taking no

satisfactory action, the British Government

allows this flagrant act of piracy of a British

ship involving as it did the removal of two

British Mercantile Marine Officers from their ship

and a deliberate attempt on the life of one to go

unpunished.
