Enclosure No.3.

26

TELEGRAM

From H.B.M. Consul-General, Canton.

To

The Officer Administering the Government, Hong Kong

Dated 8th October, 1928.

Your telegram of October 6th was referred to the

Chinese Naval Authorities. They reply that men-of-war

Ping Nan, Hai Fu, and Kwang Ken were sent from Canton

last Thursday and more than 100 soldiers by land. Canton

Authorities are evasive about co-operation and it is

useless to expect any definite proposals from them on the

subject. They told me verbally however that they did not object and the only thing to do now is for British men-of- war to get in touch with the Chinese gunboats and arrange

things on the spot.

Please repeat to Commodore.

Brenan.
