TELEGRAM

Hong Kong.

With reference to your despatch No.224, the Senior

Naval Officer and I have interviewed the Commissioner of

Foreign Affairs, Admiral Chan Chak and General Teng, and

handed them a memorandum in Chine se embodying the informa

tion contained in the Police report.

They promised to telegraph to the Military and Naval

Authorities in the sense desired and are sending the

cruiser Ching Shan shortly to assist. They stated that

there was no objection to a British Man-of-war co-operating
