The following telegram appeared in the North China Daily
News of 17th December, asted 16th December fion Hong Kong
under the heading "Canton City of the Dead":-
"A city of the dead descripes the condition of Canton after

A telegram from Hong Kong dated 17th December says:-
"Thousands of refugees of all classes continue to pour into
Hong Kong daily, every steamer from Canton being crowded to her
utmost capacity with Chinese passengers. The police here are
