The Management Comittee feel that these views 88

expressed by experienced Officers are worthy of most serious

consideration and they trust that the secretary of State for

Foreign Affaire and the British authorities on the Coast of

Chins are sparing no affort in completely eradicating any

ohrnce of thene atrocities again happening.

Moreover, in common justion, Officers trading on the

China Cosat should be definitely assured of substantial pensions

in case of disability through piraticsl attack and equally

substantial compensation to their dependents in case of

injuries proving fatal. To this end we trust that the Secretary

of State for Foreign Affairs will exert all that great influence

which is at his command.
