With reference to your letter of the 14th
November (1.5.0/I.H.7, Service Department) regarding
the provision of anti-piracy guards on British
etesmers in Chinese waters, I am direated by deeretary
Sir Austen Chamberlain to inform you that while the
permanent provision of such guards is impracticable
there is no intention to withdraw them in the neAZ"
future. Reasonable notias of their impending withdraval
will be given when the time comes in order to enable
shipowers to take their own measures,
