Admiralty have asked War Office as result of Anking

piracy to sanction provision military guards on steamers

on Hong Kong Amoy Swatow and Singapore routes. After

consultation with C.-in-C., G.Os.C. North and South

China Commands are each authorised at their discretion

to provide guards not exceeding 3 cfficers and 60 other

ranks absent at any one time. Any guards already

authorised to be included in above numbers.

Guards

between Singapore and Hong Kong will continue to be

provided by G.O.C. Malaya at his discretion as authorised

in War Office letter of 31st December, 1927, No.098/3575

(M.0.1). In no case is any expense to fall on public

funds.
