With reference to your Confidential

Straits Settlements despatch dated the 26th July,

1928, on the subject of the protection of Chinese

British subjects in China, I have the honour to

inform you that the arrangements made with the

Canton Government for the issue of denationalisation

certificates to Chinese British subjects who wish

to maintain their British nationality in China have

my concurrence, and that I am causing steps to be

taken to bring these arrangements, which will apply

in the first instance to the provinces of Kwangtung

and Kwangsi, to the notice of Chinese British subjects

in this Colony.
