I have to inform you that in accordance with an
understanding reachad with the Canton Government, British
subjects of Chinese descent, who wish to have their British
nationality recognized in China by the authorities of the
provinces of Krangtung and Kwangsi, must apply to the
Kwangtung Commissioner for foreign Affairs for a certificate
of denationalization in accordance with the Chinese Nat-
ionality law,
Such applications can be made either direct to the
Commissioner for Foreign Affairs or through this Consulate
General, and applicants are required to fill in the
questionnaire fora of which I enclose a copy. A copy of
the Chinese regulations under which these certificates are
issued is also eno lo sed.
The fee payable to the Bureau for Foreign Affairs for the certificates amounts to $11.00 in Hongkong currency, and if the application is made through this Consulate General
a consular fee of H.K. $2.00 must also be paid.
In the
latter case the total sum of N.K.
13.00 must be forwarded to this office together with the application.
You are requested, therefore, to take steps to obtain
a Chinese denationalization certificate without delay, as your registration and protection as a British subject whilst in China may be refused by the British, as well as the Chinese, authorities in the event of your falling to comply with the above ruling.
I am, sir,
Your obedient servant,
Consul-General.
