Cantun.
28th vune, 1928.
sir.
With reference to despatch No. 60 of the
5th June addressed to you by His Majesty's Consul- General at Hankow, I have the honour to report
that I took the opportunity of a recent conversation
with the Commissioner for foreig „ffairs to
ascertain the present attitude of the Canton
Government towards the proposal for the completion
of the Centon-Hankow railway.
2. Mr. Chu said that the Canton Government was all in favour of the project and hoped that a
portion of the Boxer indemnity fund would be made available for the purpose. He reminded me that Marshal El had already raised this question with you at your interview with him on the 27th February last, and had stated that the completion of the Hankow line was one of the constructive works which the provinciel government desired to see carried out at an early dute.
Marshal
Di ulso said the same thing to Bir Cecil Clementi on the ocomblon of the latters visit to Cantun. Mr. Chu urged, moreover, that the moment was suitable for reviving the scheme, as Canton and Hankow were on perticularly friendly terms and were in fact controlled
dis Majesty'z Kirister,
Peking.
