Specification for 4-6-0 Type Locomotives
with Tender (Superheated) 4-8 Gauge.
4-6-0 Type Locomotives and Tenders, complete in every respect
with screw-jacks, fire-irons, tools, and all other necessary
requisites.
The locomotives are required for through passenger service
between Hong Kong and Canton, a distance of 110 miles, and
they must be easily capable of doing this without a stop for
water or fuel, with a load of 400 tons behind the tender at
the following speeds:-
50 miles per hour on the level.
25 miles per hour up a grade of 1 in 150.
20 miles per hour up a grade of 1 in 100.
The design of the locomotives and tenders which is to be
generally as shown on Drg.No. 24700 is to be in accordance
with particulars given in the following specification and
also the detail drawing mentioned therein.
SPECIFICATION.
1. Boiler Pressure 180 lbs per sq. inch.
Cylinders 21 dia. x 28 stroke.
Coupled wheels 6'0" diameter.
Bogie wheels 3*7* diameter.
Rigid wheel base, not to exceed 14'0".
Total wheel base of engine 28′0*.
Total wheel base of engine and tender about 55*7*.
