REPORT OF THE LABOUR ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON FURTHER MEMORIALS RECEIVED FROM THE DAILY PAID WORKMEN IN THE VARIOUS GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS,
•
Ar the end of last year a general increase of 20 per cent. on their wages was granted to the workmen in the Government Factory, Railway Workshops, and Colombo Harbour Works working under Factory Conditions.' As this increase was confined to workinen in these Departments who strictly fulfilled these conditions, and as in the Railway the increases did not apply to any of the workmen in the Dematagoda Running Shed or in the Outstation Sheds and the general daily paid labour on the line, there were naturally very general representations from many classes of daily paid labour to be given a similar increase of pay. A Special Sub-Committee of the Labour Advisory Committee was appointed at the Special Meeting of the Labour Advisory Committee held on January 4, 1926, to consider the memorials. The Sub-Committee held the following meetings to take evidence from representatives of the memorialists:-
January 16, 1926. at the Office of the Assistant Divisional Transportation Superintendent,
January 26, 1926,
February 2, 1926,
