photographs was started.

It was found that

there were certain discrepancies and deficiencies

in the lists of trigonometrical points which had

of compilation

to be cleared up before the work could be started.

Some of these had been already noted but it was

considered advisable to ask again for further

information on all points.

Only a list of

coordinates in geographicals and rectangulars was

available. There was no information as to the

method of computation, projection and figure of

the Earth employed.

In addition, the following

points gave rise to special comment:-

(1)

(ii)

Doubt as to the geographical values

adopted for the origin.

Discrepancies between values given for

rectangular and geographical coordinates.

These appeared to be partly systematic

and partly due to errors in copying.

(iii) False value for the zero at Victoria

Peak.

Information regarding these points was

asked for in a letter sent tothe Colonial Survey

Committee on the 28th June,1927, and forwarded

by them to the Government of Hong Kong. No reply

has yet been received.

Information was also

asked for by cable to G.O.C.Hong Kong regarding

the geographical coordinates adopted for Kowloon

Observatory and the methods of computation,

projection, and figure of the Earth employed.

The reply gave the values for Kowloon but stated

that no information on the other points was

available.

From this it appears that the
