It may be that an incorrect impression
on the lines indicated above may be at the
bottom of their rejection of the proposal
to grant nurses who are not being re-engaged
three months leave on the expiration of their
engagement. I think, however, that on this
point we must clearly return to the charge.
The provision is designed to tide nurses over
the difficult period after their return to
this country and while they are securing
further employment, whereas, vide paragraph 4,
the Governor seems merely to have considered
this question of leave in connection with the
climate of the Colony and the health of the
nurses. He points out that nurses get two
months' leave during their three years in
Hong Kong and are free to accumulate it for use
on the termination of their engagement, if
however not
they so desire. It should Bandeer be
overlooked prekendes on that in Malaya/quite apart from
Malay
the three months' leave on termination,nurses get two weeks casual leave a year, i.e. a
total of two months' local leave while actually
in Malaya, just as Hong Kong nurses get local
leave.
