I will let Depts.

submission is about
Major Furse,
The Director General, Ordnance Survey,
Southampton, has arranged for a special course of
instruction for selected candidates about June 15th.
We have promised to send him our list as soon as possi-
ble.(I understand that hitherto courses of Instruction
have been arranged by Er.Chapman of the Nigerian
Department, but I am not familiar with details). I would
suggest the following procedure in regard to the forth-
coming course:-
In the letter finally approving his appointment
the candidate should be told that, in regard to the
course of instruction which will commence at Southampton
about the 15th of June he may expect to receive instrue-
tion from the Director General Ordnance Survey in due
course.
I understand that the list of candidates who have
qualified at the Civil Service Commissioners examina-
tion is now nut, we should be able to select candi-

dates by the 23rd inst. Departments should be able
to complete their actions by June 2nd. I suggest
to go through, so that therefore that Departments should be told that names they can prepare
offers in advance.
and addresses of selected candidates should be sent
to G.D. not later than June 2nd, so that at least 10 days
netice should be given to Director General, Ordance
Survey, Southampton, who should be asked to issue his
instructions to these probationers. If it is considered
necessary, I could let G. D. have a list of selected candi-
dates.
