three large cases and the one small onse hidden beneath
gunny bags sere actually found sa predicted, but were dis-
covered to be without contents. Moreover, I gather that
researches by the police in the neighbourhood of Tasikmalaja
have failed to disclose any secret installation for the
ortune factory of Ang 3100
manufacture of arms beneath the
Tjiang. The authorities are therefore inclined to suspect
that the information may have been deliberately and falsely supplied from communist sources, either as a practical Joke
or as a means of testing the vigilance of the Dutch Indian
Intelligence Service, If (as may be the oase) the reports
are substantially true, they are obviously of much importanes, as demonstrating both the ramifications of the local communist
organisation and the lengths to which it is prepared to go.

11. Special attention may be called to Lim Soe Den, whom
name has been quoted several times in this despatch. I under-
stand that he was partially educated in Holland and that, in addition to his other functions, he is alleged to exercise those of "Colonel at Whampoa". The address of his firm (the
"Long Tong Kongsi") at Hong Kong is given as "No.1 Connaught
Road, Rost (Praya)" The firm is said to deal in sugar. IT
the information respecting him is trustworthy, Lim Soe Den must be a particularly dangerous man.
