and I would invite reference to the corres-
pondence ending with the Duke of Devonshire's
Confidential despatch of the 29th August, 1923.
Now that the China Order-in-Council therein
referred to has been issued, there appears to
be no reason why the amendment of the Hong
Kong Deportation Ordinance on the lines pro-
posed in the Duke of Devonshire's Confidential
despatch of the 18th June, 1923, should be
longer deferred, and I should be glad if you
would consider the desirability of proceeding
without further delay with the re-casting of
the Ordinance on the lines suggested.
