Assistant Mistresses.

1. Assistant Mistresses are appointed from home on a three years'
£300 for the first, £320 for the second,
agreement on a salary of
and £340 for third year.
These sums are paid in dollars at a
rate which varies slightly with the rate of exchange in accordance
with the following scales:-

No quarters are provided, but an unmarried Assistant Mistress
receives a House Allowance of $600 a year.
The passages of the Assistant Mistresses are paid to the Colony.
Engagements are, in the first instance, for not more than three
years from date of arrival in the Colony. If it is established
to the satisfaction of the Governor that the Assistant Mistress
is not qualified for efficient service there, he has, subject to
the confirmation of the Secretary of State, full power to cancel the appointment at any time within the three years without giving any further compensation than a passage back to England provided
that the Assistant Mistress' conduct has been satisfactory. If
the appointment is terminated at the end of the three years, the
Assistant Mistress will be given a free passage back to England
provided that her conduct has been satisfactory.
