I accordingly enclose (in orig.)

the applications submitted by Miss Barth and

Miss Ralls. From the fact that the Govr.

has asked that they should be considered,

we presume that their paper qualifications

may be regarded as satisfactory. We should,

however, be glad to have your views. A

Subject to this, we would propose

to ask the Govr.of Malta to have them inter-

viewed, and if they appear suitable on personal

grounds, to offer them appts., leaving the

selection of candidates for the remaining two

vacancies to you. thestore, If you think

that the qualifications of these two ladies

are perhaps only just good enough, and if you

think you are likely to get very much better

qualified candidates in England, we should

probably prefer to wait to see what field of

candidates will be forthcoming here before we

take any action.in regard to Miss Barth and

Miss Ralls.

As you probably know, we have to be

avoid creating

very careful to prevent the impression got
