Dear Sir,
In answer to your letter of yesterday's date, I have great
pleasure in recommending Miss Helen Gilmore heartily for the
post which she is seeking. Her qualifications, as tested by exam-
ination, will be well known to the Board, for she took their Final
Certificate Examination last July, and then obtained a mark of
distinction in Advanced Drawing, as well as credit marks in English and
History, and a pass in Advanced Botany. No student in her Year made
better progress than did she; she came in rather 'raw' and undevel-
oped, but on the other hand remarkably fresh and original; during
her two years here she worked her way up from nearly the bottom of
her Year to the second place. I feel that she has rather exceptional
ability as well as a marked sense of humour and plenty of enterprise.
In character and personality I found her quite delightful; she
has just the qualities which make a student a power among her com
rades. I have no doubt that if Miss Gilmore had chosen, she could
have been a nuisance here; instead of this, she showed any amount of
loyalty and good-sense, and the whole place was the better for her
presence, while personally I thought her most charming.
I am con-
fident that whatever she undertakes she will do well, and that where-
ever she goes she will make the best of her surroundings. Of course
I shall be pleased to answer more detailed questions about her if they
are put to me.
Believe me,
Yours very faithfully,
The Secretary,
Board of Education.
