Assistant Master
1. Assistant Masters are appointed from home on a three years'
agreement on a salary of £400 for the first, £420 for the second
and £440 for the third year. These sums are paid in dollars at a
rate which varies slightly with the rate of exchange in accordance
with the following scales:-
When exchange is at or over 4/4

When exchange is at or over 4/- and below 4/4 $10.30
When exchange is at or over 3/8 and below 4/-
When exchange is at or over 3/4 and below 3/8
When exchange is at or over 3/- and below 3/4
When exchange is at or over 2/8 and below 3/-
When exchange is over 2/6 and below 2/8

A monthly deduction of 4% is made as a contribution towards
Widows' and Orphans' Pensions. In the event of the Master's
agreement not being renewed, half the total sun so deducted is
refunded, if he is unmarried.
The passage of the Master to the Colony is paid as well as these of his wife and family. (see hort)
If the Master is supplied with a furnished house he will be required to pay 6% of his salary by way of rent, and 1% for upkeep
of furniture. If he rents a private house with the approval of the Government, an equivalent allowance is made.
Engagements are, in the first instance, for not more than three
years from date of arrival in the Colony. If it is established
to the satisfaction of the Governor that the Master is not
qualified for efficient service there, he has, subject to the
confirmation of the Secretary of State, full power to cancel the
