"As a temporary measure of relief to mitigate the increased cost of remittances to England, consequent on the recent fall in the exchange value of the dollar, the following arrangement supplementary to the arrangements for the payment locally in dollars, of salaries fixed in sterling, has been approved:
"Where an officer's wife and one child, or two children, one of whom is over 7 years of age, are in a sterling country, one third of the officer's salary as now paid in dollars will be paid in sterling at the rate of $8 = £1.

"Where an officer's wife alone, or one child over 7 years of age alone is in a sterling country, one quarter of the officer's salary as now paid in dollars will be paid in sterling at the rate of $8 = £1."
A monthly deduction of 4% is made as a contribution towards Widows' and Orphans' Fensions. In the event of the Officer's agreement not being renewed, half the total sum so deducted is refunded if he is unmarried.
A Master whose services during his initial three years agreement have been completely satis- factory will, subject to the exigencies of the Service, on the expiration of that period be placed on the permanent and pensionable establishment. If his services are so retained his salary will proceed by annual increments of £20 to £600, and thence by annual increments of £25 to £800, with an efficiency bar at £600. There are also several "prize" appointments open to him on salaries ranging from £850 to £1100.
Assistant Masters may undertake private tuition subject to the permission of the Director of Education being obtained, and some extra allowances are available for assistance in evening classes.

Government quarters.
(a) An officer who occupies quarters supplied by Government pays rent for such quarters at the rate of 6% or 7% of his salary according as the quarters are unfurnished or furnished.
(b) Ordinarily an unmarried officer will not be allotted Government quarters for his sole occupancy.
