If any member of an officer's family pro- ceeds home in advance of him, a passage home will be provided in the first instance, on the under- standing that the officer will repay:-

(a) Such proportion of the cost as is payable
by him in respect of his own passage if he proceeds on leave or retires on pension before the completion of four years' resident service;
(b) the whole of such cost if he leaves the
service except on pension before the comple- tion of four years' resident service.
Any such grant of a passage home will preclude any further grant in respect of a passage to or from the Colony for the same member of the family until the officer himself shall have proceeded on leave.

(27) fad, An officer who has attained the age of
45 and has completed three years resident service will, if permitted to proceed on leave before completing four years' service, contribute towards the cost of his O and his family's passages only one half or the amount which would be payable by him under the preceding less of this General Order. If an officer who has attained the age of 45 is permitted to go of leave before completing three years resident ser- vice he will be called upon to contribute one eighth of the total cost plus that proportion of sever eighths of the total cost which the period necessary to com- plete three years bears to three years.

(24) few An officer transferred to Hong Kong
from a tropical British Colony will be given full passages when he has had not Tess than four years' continuous tropi- dal service of which not less than two years have been in Hong Kong. If the leave is taken on the advice of a medical board affer less than two years in Hong Kong but more than four years' continuous tropical service the Governor shall have discretion to decide whether full pás- sage shall be paid, and, if not, what proportion shall be paid by the Officer higself. In other cases only the proportion earned by service in Hong Fong shall be paid.
