As regards further dredging this can be, if necessary, left over for consideration during progress of work already authorised as the amount of material

available from authorised work is now estimated on

further survey (at) 1,470,000 cubic yards instead of

1,030,000 cubic yards and will nearly suffice for

that part of the aerodrome site which must be filled

in. Balance of the site includes basin for typhoon shelter (see enclosure in my separate despatch of 28th March) and until this is settled the amount of

material required cannot be ascertained. As regards details of further dredging see Admiralty Chart No.1466. Proposed channel approximately 6,500 feet long would be dredged in straight line in South Easterly direction.

commencing from point 2,500 feet south by west of the

most westerly hill (231 feet high) on Stonecutters Island

distant 5,000 feet from White Point, Stonecutters Island. to a point due south of and/South westerly direction in

my telegram of 5th March should read South easterly. Nature of the material to be dredged expected to be chiefly silt and

mud. Direction of proposed channel is in line with

general flow of the tide and it may be expected to maintain

itself.
