that Mr. Liang does not expect to see any reunifica-

tion of China during the next two or three years at

least and that, pending unification, he thinks it best for each province to govern itself in alliance, if necessary, with one or more neighbouring provinces. He was very insistent that, under present circum- stances, the policy of Hong Kong should be to assist General Li Chai-sum in restoring peace and prosperity

to Kuang-tung. I agree.
