23rd May, 1927.
I have the honour to confirm my confidential telegram of the 4th May, 1927, on the subject of the
dredging of the Hong Kong Harbour and of the Aerodrome on
the Kai Tack Reclamation area.
2. The advantage of combining the dredging work with the completion of the unfinished reclamation is apparent when the estimated costs of carrying ont the works separately and together are compared. It is now estimated that the total amount of dredged material from Kowloon Point, Belchers Ridge, Kambler and Penguin Shoals will be 1,470,000 cubic yards as against the original rough estimate of 1,030,000 cubic yards given in my confidential telegram of 5th March, 1927. The quantity of filling material required to complete the Central and East Central areas of the Kai Tack Reclamation is estimated
et 1,607,100 cubic yards as against the original estimate of 2,000,000 cubic yards for the whole area as it is now intended to use part of the aerodrome site as a slipway for seaplanes and a typhoon shelter for them.
