Thank you for your letter of the 26th, 30044/27, about Hong Kong aerodrome.

The statement you' attach is quite clear, the

new items being:-

Seaplane Basin

$275,000

Approach Roads

Further small resumptions

We agree that facilities for seaplanes and flying boats will be essential, the only question being as to the necessity of providing them now.

Approach roads also are a necessary adjunct. We note that the item for further small resumptions represents outlying plots not included in the Kai Tak Company's area.

The only question that occurs to us is in connection with the apportionment of the item for dredging.

It appears from the Governor's despatch of the 23rd May that the cost of the dredging work if carried out separately would be $955,500, and the cost of reclamation $385,704, a total of $1,341,204.

By carrying out both works together the total cost is reduced to $988,404, of which $955,500 is common to the two services. It seems to
