MANCHESTER, MASS.

August 18th, 1927.

With reference to your despatch No. 601,

(F 3341/29/10) of May 2nd last, I have the honour to

report that, according to the "U.S.Daily", the United

States Consul at Hong Kong has informed his Government

that His Majesty's Air Ministry have plans for the

linking up of Hong Kong with the Empire Air routes,

the main feature of which is the building of a large

civil aerodrome in the Colony. The aerodrome will,

according to Mr. Shantz, be used in the proposed

English and Australian service via Singapore and as a

centre for routes to China, Japan and the Philippines.

Mr. Shantz states that the present plans are confined

to the completion of the land reclamation and the sea

wall and the building of a typhoon shelter and basin

for sea-planes. Advice, he says, is being sought from

England in regard to the erection of the necessary

buildings.

I have etc.,

(Signed) Esme Howard.
