time and cost which would be involved in the completion of
the first stage of the enlargement and a copy of his reply.
In view of the fact that the cost of the completion
of the first stage is estimated at £4,000 only and the time
required is three to four months, the Council trust that Mr.
Amery will be willing to request the Governor of Hong Kong
to put the work in hand as a matter of the utmost urgency.
The question of the cost of subsequent stages could
form the subject of further consideration.
Copies of this letter have been sent to the Foreign
Office, Admiralty and War Office.
