TELEGRAM. From the Secretary of atate for the Colonies

to the Governor of Hong Kong.

(Sent 2.10.p.n. 9th April, 1927.)

75-

Referring to your telegram of 5th March

Consider

that works mentioned paragraphs 2 and 3 of your telegram

which ar of undoubted advantage to the Harbour and the

Colony any be undertaken provided no danger of dredging at

Kowlom undermining jetties and provided Company will accept

same price per cubic yard for this part as for hole work.

I a advised by Jonsulting ängineers that price is very

rasonable on the assumption that it includes deposit of

redgings in reclamation and that quantity is ascertained by

measurement of material when actually deposited, if not price

is faiz but not cheap. I agree to cost of these works being

paid by the Colony.

Proposals in paragraph 4 are considered of doubtful

benefit to harbour and should be undertaken if at all only

as subsidiary to the aerodome. Question of cout of this

part of work is under discussion and it dll be impossible to

obtain decision by 11th April.

Consider therefore that

Very

contract should be made for works in paragraphs 2 and 3

only at present leaving rest for further consideration.

desirable these proposed works should be further considered

if possible by experts before work is undert. ken Could

not Kowloon Wharf Company be invited to contribute to cost

in respect of benefit to their wharves

Consulting Engingers

advise that recurring dredging might be required from time

to time off Kowloon point
