LEGISLATION WITH REGARD TO NARCOTICS.
In addition to the regulations governing the trade
in raw and prepared opium, regulations regarding the trade in
narcotics were passed on April 5th, 1924 (Boletim Official
No.14), containing the following provisions:
The maximum importable quantity of cocaine is 500 grammes.

" opium containing 10% of mor-
phine is 1,500 grammes.
opium extract containing 20% of
morphine is 1,000 grammes.
liquid extract of opium contain-
ing 2 to 3 of morphine is
500 grammes,
* heroin 18 0.20 grammes
morphine is 50 gr mmes.
* dionine is 50 grammes.
These maxima are in force for a year at a time and
apply to towns of more than 100,000 inhabitants.
Bach pharmacy has to obtain special authorisation to
purchase narcotice, and every year pharmacies have to account
for the quantities which they claim to have purchased and slse
the quantities they have sold during the previous year,
The concessionnaire is allowed to re-export provided
that he observes the opium trade regulations.

In 1924 the courte at Macno inflicted punishment
for 5 contraventions of the relations in connection with
prepared opium (510 taels) and 8 in connection with opium
residue (41.5 taels); no contravention was reported in regard
